I haven't blogged in a while, man I'm a slacker. I have been busy going outside, working, doing other things that don't involve me being stuck in front of the vacant glow of a computer screen.

oh yeah and loving my free car btw...
still haven't shown it off to everyone.
man, I gotta get on that.

ART I LIKE: part 3 (awesome fantasy art edition)

these are so awesome. I kinda wish I painted like this.

Frank Frazetta, he's awesome.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_GgX4S7W-eI8/SZTZ51P7yMI/AAAAAAAABYw/cE78pTv1xH0/Untamed%20love%20Lion%20attack%20Frank%20Frazetta%20romance%20comics%20scans%5B7%5D.jpg

http://natsukashi.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/fire_and_ice.jpg

If you like Frazetta watch Fire and Ice, I watched that movie when I was probably too young to watch it. It's one of those things that got me into art at an early age.
An awesome movie about warring barbarian cave clans and there's magic and blood and beasts and breasts (these are a few of my favorite things...)

Old rumple minze ads were so awesome too! bad-ass chick on a polar bear!?! Giant Ice Sword?!? really? so
cool.

And then there is another early favorite of mine William Stout

I wish they went with his designs for Pan's Labyrinth.

Man if only I had a van and an airbrush.
maybe if I win the cube...

I used to be in a band, not a great band, but a band.
our name was "cortez" not my choice I was out voted.
i wanted "the black mambas"
mind you this was before black mountain or the black lips existed as bands...

we recorded 3 songs though we had alot more.
ok we had a few more.
we played a couple of parties during our reign.
when we recorded we had already been broken up for 6 months
and hadn't touched our songs since then.
The recording was never mixed, and only had a couple takes.
We did it in someones living room with my friend Chris Cucci at the helm.
I wish we went back in to finish it up.
I couldn't get my solo right during the song "fire, sweat, whiskey"
so james says "now touch me" and there should be some hot guitar action.
i still think if we kept jamming, we could have been a viable band
(i.e.: current hit-makers the black lips, the vivian girls, etc ad. infinitum)

anyway to the point, i've got the songs on my itunes and i like to throw one on every so often,
but we never had a cover or anything.. it never got that far.
so i decided to make an album cover for our ep.
"legends of the black swamp"

video
in case you forgot.
this time with music
(that i wrote and recorded)
I was trying to embody nature.
I should have added some whale song.

My whole thing is nature vs culture

but not so vs, more of a clash and combination.
i think that's an important place to be currently
nature is where we came from culture is what we made, where we're going, but we shouldn't
forget nature, we need to keep it safe, we need to come up with a
wholistic approach, combining the two in a sustainable yet progressive way.

Man, the voting is over, its all a waiting game.
Its in the judges hands now...
I really hope to be one of the 50 winners.. but I don't have any expectations of winning.
Maybe I should? But I've never won anything, ever... so..
I thought my page was one of the prettiest. but I don't know if there was enough about the cube.
I thought my animation was awesome, i worked hard on that. it came out exactly like I thought it would. but it ended up looking small on my page.

Any way enough with the negativity!!!
I'm gonna win.
gotta think positive.

keep your fingers crossed.

So last night I was having a conversation about Los Angeles, and if there was a quintessential
band from LA in the last two decades, and we couldn't think of a band that was worthy of the
title quintessential since Guns and Roses. There has to be a band from LA in the last 2o years
worthy of that title, if not that's pretty sad for the 2nd largest city in the USA.

And by quintessential, I also mean good, and influential (so the Red Hot Chili Peppers don't
count, they started in the 80's anyway). And I guess you could look to rap, and maybe say Dr.
Dre, Snoop Dogg and TuPac, but "the chronic" dropped in 1990, still about 20 yrs ago.

Any input?
let's discuss this.

Telma:
CANVAS
Stu: CANVAS

1) What's the Best Driving Album EVAR?

tswizz
Its a custom album... Put all my fave misfits songs on 1 disc. All stuff when danzig was still in the misfits :)

chrismusina Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska. Probably the best album ever. recorded at home with a 4-track in '82. its so stripped down, its folk, its punk rock (in ethos, though the two chords and howling in state trooper is pretty fucking punk in my opinion), amazing song writing, its everything just right.
And most of the songs feature driving, cars and locations, so you couldn't ask for a better driving album.

essteeyouTough one. I've been tossing Slayer's Reign In Blood and Busta Rhyme's Extinction Level Event around, but I may have to go with Propagandhi - Less Talk, More Rock

2) Top 7 songs that you HAVE to hear on a road trip

tswizz
1. What's my name - snoop dogg
2. Last caress - misfits
3. Waiting room - fugazi
4. Sexy back - justin timberlake
5. My pants keep falling down - frenzal rhomb
6. B.o.b. - outkast
7. Beggin - madcon

chrismusina There are so many great songs to hear on a road trip, but the ones that always hit me reference traveling, locations, and cars.
but i also had to pick 10.. love music too much just to pick 7...

1 Ryan Adams - Let it Ride
2 Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road
3 Band of Horses - Great Salt Lake
4 Murder City Devils - 18 Wheels
5 Hot Snakes - 10th Planet
6 Beach Boys - Sloop John B
7 CCR - Travelin' Band
8 Bright Eyes - Classic Cars
9 The Shangri-Las - Train from Kansas City
10 Dr. Dre - Let me Ride

essteeyou
1 Broken Social Scene - 7/4 Shoreline
2 The National - Fashion Coat
3 Fugazi - Waiting Room
4 Arcade Fire - Keep The Car Running
5 The Constantines - Young Lions
6 Volcano, I'm Still Excited! - In Green
7 Mastodon - Iron Tusk

3) You have to drive to work at 5:30 in the morning, what are you listening to to wake up?

tswizz
Britney spears - womanizer or any annoying high bpm song :)

chrismusina Black Mountain, Black Sabbath, Danzig, The Dwarves, Rocket From the Crypt.

essteeyou Mastodon. Maybe Slayer. I'd want to put on Cult of Luna, but would likely drive into a lamp pole.

4) 1 song that will ruin your drive, every time?

tswizz Its not 1 song... Its a band... Nickleback!

chrismusina Nickleback. Agreed. They are the bane of Canadian music, actually no the bane of music everywhere.

essteeyou
THREE STRIKES! Nickleback is OUT.

5) Best driving + music memory?

tswizz Listening to snow patrol while driving along on highway 1 from san francisco to LA

chrismusina Highschool road trips in Florida.. Driving over the Sunshine Skyway (super long bridge) or across Alligator Alley (long stretch of Highway through the Everglades) - stoned out of our minds.. Soundtrack? - Bone-thugs N Harmony E 1999 Eternal, NOFX- Punk in Drublic, and Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon.

essteeyou
Being on tour - listening to Busta Rhymes and Slayer, repeatedly and on cassette tape.

6) Guilty pleasure

tswizz Anything by kelly clarkson :)

chrismusina Once again Agreed. Kelly Clarkson. Since U been Gone specifically.

essteeyouFlock Of Seagulls...I Ran. I know...

There was a young fellow named Freeman,
Who told girls he could bang like a demon,
At the end of the day
He never got laid,
Only his hands got covered in semen.

Miss me? is any one actually reading this regularly?
I haven't posted because its kind of lame to blog about your own life.
But I did start a project working for Hall Train Studios, building an indricotherium for
the American Museum of Natural History (the best museum in the world really).
It will be part of a traveling exhibit about mammals, so it may come to a town near you sometime. I'll post pics when there are pics worth posting.

http://www.lacoctelera.com/myfiles/first_corner_of_anita_bokeron/elephant.indricotherium.human.jpg

so for now
here is a limerick.

There was a young fellow of Kent,
Whose prick was so long that it bent,
So to save himself trouble
He put it in double,
And instead of coming he went.

I have this awesome book of dirty limericks that my good Floridian friend Chris Cucci
(real name) gave me long ago...

I'm working on a new painting of bats. It's big, 7' x 4'.
Its inspired by demons, Bosch, Afghanistan, genies, and of course bats.
I only did research on Wikipedia / online, and hopefully my information is flawed.
That is really the point.

behold! a pale horse.
acrylic on linen

notes: Though I have presented it in portrait here, this painting is meant to go either portrait or landscape. The decision lies in the person hanging it, which changes the painting incredibly. In portrait the horse head is active, and the maggots are coming from the head as if they were fire. In landscape the horse head is passive and the maggots are moving towards it.
